Health and Fitness Challenges
When it comes to our health and fitness, there are a great many hurdles (Get it? Hurdles, fitness… You get it.) in our way. The modern age of convenience and luxury has softened us and presented us with a few surprising and unique health and fitness related challenges, and so it falls to us to take the initiative to take our health and fitness into our own hands and improve our health and fitness to lead healthier and happier lives. The main culprits in today’s health epidemic are inactivity and processed foods. These two seemingly innocuous threats actually have some pretty nasty effects on our bodies, so we need to make changes in order to maintain our health. Here’s what you need to know.
First and foremost, let’s tackle the inactivity problem. At the dawn of man, we had all of our fitness problems taken care of by the urgent fight for survival. We had to forage and hunt to survive, after all. Now, however, we have all of our needs met, more of less, just by holding a job, so the job is our fight for survival. Therefore, if your job lacks any demand for upper body strength, you’ll have to make up for that elsewhere or risk atrophy. Atrophy is an extreme risk, mind you, but the point stands. Meanwhile, if you worked at, say, Autozone, your work with car repairs would build that upper body strength for you, so you’d have nothing to worry about. The key is to assess your strengths and weaknesses and take care of those weaknesses with your workout regimen.
Then, there’s your diet. Processed foods have become a bona fide staple of the Western diet thanks to their low price point and their convenience factor. However, this is achieved with additives that rob them of their nutritional value and make them addictive, so they have nasty ramifications on our bodies. Replace these items with fresh, whole ingredients made into home cooked meals, and you’ll start to have more energy, lose excess weight, and generally feel better. You’ll spend more money and more time in the kitchen, but it’ll be worth it.
